Vipps
Last updated: October 3, 2025
Vipps is an e-commerce payment system based in Norway that allows customers to pay for their purchases online using their credit or debit card and pay the recipient directly to their phone number, rather than to a bank account. All major Norwegian banks are members of Vipps.
Why use Vipps?
Vipps is Norway’s most popular online payment method. If your company is based in Norway, or if you have a large number of Norwegian customers, you can potentially increase your conversion rate due to its popularity as a method of payment.
Norwegian customers convert 5% better on FareHarbor when Vipps is offered as an online payment method.

Enabling Vipps
Vipps payments are available for Norwegian companies whose processing currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK) and payment processor is Stripe.
To enable Vipps for a company, go to advanced settings, open the Payments section, and check the box next to Enable Vipps payments:

- The option to pay with Vipps is available only to online customers in Norway.
- Vipps payments are not allowed when your Dashboard is in demo mode.
What happens when a Vipps payment is made?
When the Vipps payment option is used, the booking(s)/order will remain in a pending state until one of the following occurs:
- the charge is authorized
- the charge is declined
- the charge expires (will expire after 15 minutes)
When the payment is successful after the charge is authorized, the booking(s)/order will be completed as usual (emails sent, etc.).
- When the payment fails as a result of being declined or expired, the booking(s)/order will be deleted (no emails sent) and the customer will have to begin the booking again.
What changes will Dashboard users see?
- Dashboard users will not be able to view pending bookings/orders. However, pending bookings will affect other areas of the Dashboard, like customer counts, and pending bookings will influence altering and deleting availabilities which have currently pending bookings on them.
- Pending bookings will affect capacity (they can prevent users from booking).
- Vipps refunds can be issued in the same way as refunds for regular card payments. However, be aware that there is a time limit for issuing refunds for Vipps payments of up to 10 business days after the original payment. Furthermore, it is possible for Vipps refunds to fail a few days after they are issued.
- We will be dealing with failures manually as they occur.
Important things to note:
- Payment processor: Stripe is the only supported payment processor at the current time.
- Processing fees: 2.3% of the booking cost plus a Vipps flat fee of Norwegian krone (NOK) 4.10 per transaction.
- Pending bookings / Pending resources: Because pending bookings are not currently shown in the Dashboard, logged-in users won’t be able to see the reason why a pending booking cannot be completed (for example, whether there was not enough availability capacity left, resources left, etc).
- If an online customer initiates the Vipps process, then exits the Vipps flow/page, the booking and payment will not be completed, and we will not notify the customer of the incomplete booking payment.
- If an online customer does not complete a Vipps payment within 15 minutes, the booking will time out and they will have to restart the booking process.
