QR code payments with FareHarbor Dock
Last updated: August 21, 2025
FareHarbor Dock now supports QR code payments, allowing your customers to complete their bookings using their preferred payment method directly from their mobile devices. You just need to have the FareHarbor Dock app set up and running on the tablet device that will be used by your staff or customers for making bookings.
This feature is relevant to you if:
- Your Dashboard is verified with Stripe as the default payment processor.
Your company activities are in a region where Stripe card readers cannot be used. For a list of eligible regions, please visit Stripe’s dedicated article.
For example, if you have a US company operating in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), you can take advantage of this feature. However, if you have a US company operating in the mainland United States, please use one of the existing card readers supported by FareHarbor.
You operate in an environment where card reader Bluetooth connectivity is not reliable. For example, taking walk-ins at a beach.
- Corporate or legal reasons prohibit you from using Stripe-supported card readers at your location.
If you are interested in using the QR code payments option, please reach out to FareHarbor Support to configure your Dashboard settings in line with the feature.
QR code payment information
FareHarbor Dock QR code payments works with the following payment methods:
- Cards
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay (through Stripe)
Payment methods that are not currently supported by the feature: iDEAL, AfterPay, and PayPal.
QR code payments via Dock are processed securely through FareHarbor.
- All payments will appear on your regular FareHarbor Sales Reports.
- If needed, customers can cancel the payment on the QR code page during the booking process.
Do QR code payments replace card reader payments?
Not exactly. While QR code payments enable Dock to be used in situations and environments where EMV card readers cannot be used, they are designed as a backup for card readers, not as a replacement.
Here are some trade-offs you should remember, where card readers are still a better option:
- Faster payments and therefore more volume: If you have a lot of walk-ins, card readers take less time to process a payment, as the customer won’t have to complete the payment from their phone. This means shorter wait times in queues and, therefore, more bookings per day.
- Relatively safer: Payments processed through card readers are, on average, more secure and less prone to fraud and disputes compared to QR code payments. Having said that, it’s important to note that FareHarbor works with its payment processors to regulate and block fraudulent transactions wherever possible.
Booking with a QR code payment
To ensure that no issues arise during the booking process:
- All devices using Dock should be located in areas with a stable internet connection.
- Your customers will need their mobile device and internet access.
To accept a QR code payment:
- Create a booking in the Dock app.
- After adding the customer’s contact details, select Proceed to payment.
A QR code will appear on the screen for your customer to scan with their mobile device camera.
Note: The booking process will expire if the customer doesn’t complete the payment within 10 minutes.

After the customer has scanned the QR code, they’ll be redirected to a secure payment page hosted by FareHarbor to enter their payment details.

After a successful payment, your customer will see a confirmation message on their device.

The booking confirmation will also appear on your FareHarbor Dock screen.

QR code payments prerequisites
To make sure QR code payments in the Dock app will work, the following prerequisites have to be met for the client:
On the Dashboard > Settings > Advanced company settings > FH Setup page, the following fields are configured correctly:
- EMV chip card payments is disabled.
- Enable Point of Sales (POS) is enabled.
The client’s Dashboard is verified with Stripe as the default payment processor. PayPal only Dashboards are not supported at the moment.
The activities of the company are in a region where Stripe card readers cannot be used. For a list of eligible regions, please check Stripe’s dedicated article.
For example, a US company operating in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) is eligible, but a US company operating in mainland US should use one of the existing card readers supported by FareHarbor. For best user experience and speed of operation, FareHarbor recommends using a card reader supported by Dock.
The client has the Dock app set up and running on the tablet device that will be used by their staff or customers for making the bookings.
QR code payments are not a replacement for card reader payments
If clients reach out with questions whether they can rely only on QR code payments, confirm that while QR code payments enable Dock to be used in situations and environments where EMV card readers cannot be used, they are designed as a backup for card readers, not as a replacement.
