FareHarbor Dock Kiosk mode
Last updated: August 21, 2025
Kiosk mode references online bookability settings and statuses.
Kiosk mode enables you to switch from Staff mode to a customer-facing kiosk view. Customers can use Kiosk mode to create their own bookings, and are not able to access booking actions or app settings.
Customers who book using Kiosk mode will also receive booking confirmations via email.
Check out the video below for a comprehensive walkthrough of Kiosk mode.
User setup
Setting up a kiosk-specific user not only helps safeguard crew members’ login credentials and details, but also supports reporting on the performance of different kiosk devices.
We recommend the following kiosk user setup:
- Create a new user for each kiosk. (For example, create a user named “kiosk 1”.)
- Set the new kiosk-specific user up with a password that can be shared within the company.
Switching to Kiosk mode
Kiosk mode only works when Guided Access is enabled. Guided Access limits the device to a single app, and lets you control which features are available.
To initialize Kiosk mode:
- Ensure your card reader is connected.
- Tap the menu icon (three lines).
- Select Settings, then tap Kiosk.
- Toggle on Kiosk mode.
- Add your device authentication using Guided Access for iOS devices or app pinning for Android devices.
To exit Kiosk mode:
- Tap the lock icon in the top left corner.
- Select Settings, then tap Kiosk.
- Toggle off Kiosk mode.
iOS: Setting up Guided Access
- Navigate to your iPad’s Settings and select Accessibility. Turn on Guided Access.
- Tap Passcode Settings.
- Tap Set Guided Access Passcode.
- Enter a passcode, then re-enter it to confirm.

- Click Security or Security & location.
- Click Advanced.
- Turn on App pinning.
Pinning your screen
- Navigate to the FareHarbor Dock app.
- Open your Overview.
- Tap the app’s icon at the top of the image.
- Click Pin.
Signing FareHarbor waivers
If your Dashboard has FareHarbor Waivers enabled, Kiosk mode will have two options for signing waivers.
- Customers who book via Dock can sign their waiver as part of the booking process. (Note: This option is also available in Staff mode.)
- Customers who booked online can walk up and begin the signing process via the welcome screen.
Prerequisites:
- The FareHarbor Waivers feature must be enabled for your Dashboard.
- A welcome screen must be enabled for FareHarbor Dock.
Signing as part of the booking process
To sign a waiver as part of the booking process:
Click the Sign waiver button that appears on the booking confirmation screen.

The customer reviews, signs, and submits the waiver.
The waiver and any associated submission details will be available in your Dashboard. Learn more about viewing waiver information in the Dashboard.
Signing a waiver via the welcome screen
To sign a waiver via the welcome screen:
Click the Sign waiver button that appears on the welcome screen.

The customer can search for their booking with one of the following:

Self-service check-in
FareHarbor Dock’s Self-service check-in kiosk is an automated station that allows your customers to independently check in at a physical location for their booked activity. This can provide your customers with more control and save time for you and your team.
If you’re interested in enabling self-service check-in on your Dock application, please reach out to our Support team to request it.
Important notes
- For self-service check-in to work, you need the Check-in feature enabled on your Dashboard.
- You can verify if this is enabled on your Dashboard’s Settings page. Check-in should be visible as an option under the Build section of the sidebar on the left. In case it’s not, please contact our Support team to enable it.
- If Check-in is already enabled, Dock will automatically mark the checked-in customer with the default or top status of the Checked in type on the Dashboard’s Check-in page.
- Multi-scanning is currently not supported by this feature. However, having multi-scanning enabled won’t affect self-service check-in.
- If the booking has waivers, your customer will be asked to sign the waivers before they proceed to check-in.
To enable the feature in Dock:
- Navigate to Settings > Kiosk mode.
- Turn on the Enable Kiosk mode toggle. This will show the Enable self-service check-in option.
- Turn on the Enable self-service check-in toggle.
Once Self-service check-in is enabled, a Check in button will appear on your Dock’s welcome screen.

How self-service check-in works for your customers
- On the Dock welcome screen, your customers will see and select the Check in button.
- Dock will redirect them to a Search booking page.
- Your customers can then search for their booking using either the full name and email address of the booker or the booking ID.
Once your customer has opened the booking’s Check-in page, they will have the option to confirm who they are checking in by selecting one, multiple or all of the corresponding customer types.
Note: Customers that already have a check-in status will appear as either checked-in or no-show and it won’t be possible to select them. You can still manually change the check-in status of a customer via the Dashboard if needed.
The Confirm check-in button finalizes the process.

Item allocation
Fareharbor Dock’s Item allocation feature allows you to dynamically display location-relevant items while in Kiosk and Staff mode.
Personalizing item options for customers based on location can significantly benefit both your operational efficiency and conversion. Higher item relevance combined with fewer options to choose from results in less time spent making a decision by the customer, as well as a higher chance of booking an item.
This feature may be suitable for you if:
- Your company has multiple devices using the Dock app.
- Your Dock devices are located in multiple locations.
- You offer items that are location-specific.
How to set up Item allocation
To start allocating items to specific Dock devices:
- Navigate to your Dashboard > Settings.
- On the left-hand side, scroll down to the Build section and select FareHarbor Dock.
- Under Item allocation, select Add item collection.
Enter a name for your item collection.
Note: The item collection name should correspond to the relevant device or the location of the device. For example, “Hotel lobby” for your front-desk upselling items.
Select the items you want to assign to the collection from the Items dropdown list.
- Select Create to save the changes.
Once you have created one or more item collections, you can offer and book the assigned items from each corresponding Dock device.
To specify which item collection to display on a Dock device:
- Open Settings from your Dock app home page.
- Select Item allocation under the Display section.
- Choose the relevant item collection from the list, changes are automatically saved.
That’s it! Your Dock device now displays only items from the selected item collection.
