How do I add a tour or activity to my FareHarbor site?
Last updated: January 2, 2025
If you add a new tour or activity to your FareHarbor dashboard and you’d like it to show on your site, follow the steps below to ensure everything is set up and connected to the dashboard item properly!
Before you start, make sure the item is already set up in your dashboard. You can check out this help doc for more information on creating items. In addition to creating the item, make sure your new item gets added to the proper booking flows so it will appear in any book buttons on your website that include all bookable items. Details on managing booking flows can be found in this help doc (see “Adding and Organizing blocks” to add a new item to an existing booking flow).
Make sure you do not click the “Publish” button on the activity page until all of the following steps are completed. Publishing the page will make it visible to customers navigating to your website. Instead, click “Save Draft” if you have to pause at any point while completing these steps.
Creating the activity page & adjusting the URL
To create an activity page, login to your FareHarbor website (instructions here) and navigate to the Activities tab on the left
Click Add Activity at the top of the page (as seen in the image below)

Create a title for your activity. This title will be how you search for the activity in the backend of the website as well as the H1 the front end of the page.
- If you would like the title to be something that’s easy for you to search for in the backend of the website but prefer the H1 be something different, you can override the H1 on the page by filling in the “Custom Title” field in the Description tab (as seen in the image below).

The title you use will also designate the URL (as you can see in the screenshot above, the title was set as “Dolphin Tour” so /dolphin-tour/ was added to the end of the URL). To edit the URL, click the Edit button seen next to the URL.
Note, you will only be able to edit the end of the URL here.
To edit the piece of the URL directly before the page name (in the example above, /activities/), you will need to adjust the page this activity is nested under.
To do this, find the Post Parent Type section. You can choose to either nest an activity under another activity (this is a rare scenario) or under a page (this is most common for activities that will be nested under an “All Activities” page or a specific location page).
Select the option for Page and click Save Draft in the Publish section.
Once the page reloads, you should now see a Parent dropdown under the Page Attributes section. Here is where you can choose which page to nest your activity under. Keep in mind, to change the URL for the parent page (for example if I wanted /activities/ in the screenshot above to instead be /all-activities/), that would need to be edited on the page itself. It cannot be edited from this activity page.
- If you decide to change the URL of the parent page, be sure to review this Setting Up Redirects help doc to mitigate SEO losses.
Click Save Draft in the Publish section. Your activity page has now been created.
Connecting the activity page to your FH Dashboard
The next step is to connect your newly created activity page to your FareHarbor Dashboard.
First, navigate to your dashboard where the item was built
Go to your Items list, click the item that the activity page will be linked to, choose the Book Buttons & Embeds tab, and find the item ID in blue at the top of the page in the sentence “Add a book button or calendar for item xxxxxx to your website”. View these steps in a video here.
Alternatively, if you use the Table view on your Items page in the dashboard, the item ID can be found in the ID column

Navigate back to the activity page on your website, find the FareHarbor tab (as shown in the image below), and enter the item ID into the FareHarbor Item ID field

- The other fields on this tab are not needed in order to connect the item in your dashboard to this activity page. These fields are all for very unique instances and have brief descriptions to let you know of the instance when it may be needed.
Click Save Draft in the Publish section. Your FareHarbor item is now connected to the activity page.
Adding the content
Now that you’ve created the page and connected it to your FareHarbor dashboard, it’s time to add the activity content. This includes the activity description, taxonomies (these are category tags), pricing, media, and any additional details you’d like to include!
Adding photos
There are two places where you can add photos: the Media tab & the Header tab. These two tabs are located next to each other in the second row of tabs on the activity page.

The Media Tab
Navigate to the Media tab and scroll down until you see the “Add to gallery” button
Clicking this button will allow you to add multiple photos which appear as a slideshow directly above the Book Now button on desktop devices, and appear as a slideshow below your activity description on mobile devices.

If you don’t set anything in the Header tab (mentioned in the next section), the first photo in the Media gallery will become the header photo
To move photos within the gallery, drag and drop them in place
To remove a photo from the gallery, hover over the image and click the X that appears in the top right corner of the image
The Header Tab
If you navigate to the Header tab on the activity page and select “Add Image” in the Background Image section, you can set the image that appears at the top of the page.
Using the Header tab allows you to adjust some of the settings for the header image that the media tab doesn’t allow for
You can adjust the image alignment, overlay intensity, or select a different color for the overlay.
To select a different color or a gradient for the image overlay use the Palette Color dropdown or the Gradient dropdown, then check the box “Use the Palette Color or Gradient as the overlay.”
In the header tab you can also select a different image to use on mobile devices in the header
This is a great option if the image you are using as the main background image on desktop devices doesn’t scale well when you pull up the activity page on a mobile device.
To do this, within the Header tab, scroll down to the section Mobile Background Image and check the box to “Select a background image ONLY for mobile.”
Click Add Image to add a Mobile Background Image, then adjust the settings as you see fit.
- The Background Overlay Intensity will affect both the main Background Image and the Mobile Background Image unless the “Use the Palette Color or Gradient as the overlay.” field is selected for one or both of the background images.
Adding pricing
To add your activity’s price, navigate to the Pricing tab in the top row of tabs. Once you’re on the Pricing tab, there are a lot of fields that are mainly optional, below you’ll be taken through the fields that are necessary to fill in.

To start, scroll down until you see the Customer Types and Prices section and click the Add Customer Type box
This creates a new customer type and you should aim to match this with your dashboard as closely as possible
Fill in the Customer Type Label with one of the customer types in your dashboard (adult, child, senior, private tour, etc.)
Next, add the price for that customer type to the Primary Price section.
- If you’re running a promotion or discount, you can add a price to the Alternate (Strikethrough) Price box and it will appear red with a strike through it.

Follow these steps for all customer types in your dashboard
Finally set a starting price by either:
Choosing the “Set as Starting (Primary) Price” option next to one of your customer types
Or, adding a price in the “Starting (Primary) Price” section
Adding the activity description
There are a few places where a description needs to be added in order for an activity to be set up properly: the Summary section and the Extra Content section.
The Summary Section
The Summary section is where you will add a short description (1-2 sentences) that will appear in the activity block. Activity blocks are often used on the homepage and all activities page to give a quick overview of the activity.
For a video on how to find the summary section in the backend of Wordpress select here.

Extra Content Section
After you’ve added a quick summary, it’s time to add the content that will appear on the full activity page. This will be added in the Extra Content section.
For a video on how to find the extra content section in the backend of Wordpress select here.
The Extra Content section has two tabs: Visual and Text
The Visual tab gives you a preview of how the text will appear on the front end of the page and how it will look to website visitors.
The Text tab opens the “coding” part of the text. This is where you might see some customized text in < code >. It might look complicated, but it can be useful when adding new content if you have some coding knowledge. If not, we highly recommend always using the Visual tab.
Click the Visual tab, then type in the description for your activity. Often this description is copied from the description of the item in the dashboard.
In addition to the description, you should add an H2 (Heading 2). The H2 is an additional space where you can include keywords for your activity and should ideally include the location of the activity if it’s not already included in the H1 (the H1 will always be the activity title).
Extra Blocks Section
If you’d like to add some additional blocks in your activity description, navigate to the Extra Blocks tab.

This tab will allow you to add blocks such as an image, a google map block, and sectioned content.
- Sectioned content refers to a block that allows dropdowns to hide certain information unless the dropdown is clicked. This is often used for policies or FAQs. See the example below:

Adding the taxonomies (category tags)
Taxonomies are a great way to classify your tours into categories or add quick details for customers. Taxonomies will show up in the Quick Details section above your activity description, as well as on the activity blocks that are often used on the homepage and all activities page.

You likely already have taxonomy categories for your other activities. To see those, navigate to the Taxonomies tab on the activity page.
If the category you’d like to use already exists and the option within the category that applies to this activity exists, check the box next to that option (you can check multiple boxes if your activity should include multiple options).

If the category exists but the option you need for this activity does not exist, click the + button to Add New Tag that appears in the top right corner when you hover over the category box.

Once clicked, you can enter in the option needed for this activity.
To add a new taxonomy category (such as duration, ages, experience level, etc.), go to the Settings tab on the left of your screen, click Activity Settings, then select the Taxonomies tab. Click the button below the other taxonomies called Create New Taxonomy. Choose from one of the preset options or fill in your own category title and click Update.

Once created, navigate back to your activity page and you’ll see the new taxonomy category below the others without any options to check.

- To add an option to the new category, follow the same steps as mentioned above by clicking the + Add New Tag button and filling in the option that relates to this activity.
Adding the SEO items
The final item to make sure your new activity performs well in search engine results, is to add a Title Tag and Meta Description.
When you’re on the activity page, find the SEO section (typically this is all the way at the bottom of the page)

The warnings shown here are to let you know that adding details to these fields will directly affect search rankings. The details added here are what Google and other search engines will show in search results.
For example, Google’s about page has the following Title Tag (the blue text) and Meta Description (the black text under the title tag):

It’s best to add a Title Tag that includes your company name, your location, and the name of the activity. In general FareHarbor recommends the format “Title of the Page Including Location | Your Business Name”.
For the example used throughout this help doc, a good Title Tag would be “The Greatest Dolphin Tour in Florida | FareHarbor”
Title Tags should be at or under 65 characters, otherwise search engines may cut them short in search results.
For the Meta Description, you’ll want to include a short paragraph detailing the activity or tour. Try to include common terms you believe customers would search to find your activity but ensure it’s written in a paragraph format with full sentences.
For the example used throughout this help doc, a good Meta Description would be “Have you ever wanted to swim with Dolphins in Florida? Check out the Greatest Dolphin Tour Florida has to offer with FareHarbor!”
Meta Descriptions should be at or under 165 characters, otherwise search engines may cut them short in search results.
The other items you see in the SEO section should not be adjusted unless you are familiar with how and why to adjust them.
