iDEAL

iDEAL is an e-commerce payment system based in the Netherlands that allows customers to pay for their purchases online using their bank account. All major Dutch banks are members of Currence, iDEAL’s payment scheme, making it the most popular online payment method in the Netherlands with an approximate 55% share of online transactions.
While iDEAL is primarily intended for Dutch customers, non-Dutch organizations can also offer iDEAL as a payment method to their customers, as long as the company processes payments in euros. Read more about iDEAL on its website.
Why use iDEAL?
If you have a large number of customers in the Netherlands (who use Dutch banks for online purchases), you can potentially increase your conversion rate due to the popularity of iDEAL as a payment method.
How do I enable iDEAL payments for my company?
To enable iDEAL payments for your company, please contact FareHarbor support.
Notes:
- Disputes are not possible for iDEAL payments, as they’re essentially bank transfers and the customer has explicitly authenticated and authorized the transfer.
- Refunds are processed as normal. However, be aware that there is a time limit for issuing refunds for iDEAL payments of up to 180 days after the original payment.
- Payouts are handled as normal.

Enabling iDEAL
iDEAL payments are available for all EU companies whose processing currency is the Euro.
To enable, go to the company’s advanced settings (shortcut: Shift + ,), open the Payments section, and check the box next to Enable iDEAL payments:

How it works
Basics
Once the feature is enabled, the iDEAL payment option is only available to online customers (does not apply to direct bookings made in the Dashboard).

- iDEAL payments are not allowed when demo mode is enabled. You will not see an option to pay with iDEAL during checkout if your Dashboard is in demo mode.
What happens when an iDEAL payment is made?
When the iDEAL payment option is used, the booking(s)/order will remain in a pending state until:
- (a) the charge is authorized
- (b) the charge is declined
- (c) the charge expires (will expire after 10 minutes)
When the payment is successful (a), the booking(s)/order will be completed as usual (emails sent, etc).
- When the payment fails (b) or (c), the booking(s)/order will be deleted (no emails sent).
What changes will Dashboard users see?
- Dashboard users will not be able to view pending bookings/orders. However, pending bookings will affect other areas of the Dashboard, like customer counts, and pending bookings will influence altering and deleting availabilities which have currently pending bookings on them.
- Pending bookings will affect capacity (they can prevent users from booking).
iDEAL refunds can be issued in the same way as refunds for regular card payments. However, be aware that there is a time limit for issuing refunds for iDEAL payments of up to 180 days after the original payment. Furthermore, it is possible for iDEAL refunds to fail some number of days after they are issued.
- We will be dealing with failures manually as they occur.
Important things to note:
- Pending bookings / Pending resources: Because pending bookings are not currently shown in the Dashboard, logged-in users won’t be able to see the reason why a pending booking cannot be completed (for example, whether there was not enough availability capacity left, resources left, etc).
- If an online customer initiates the iDEAL process, then exits the iDEAL flow/page, the booking and payment will not be completed, and we will not notify the customer of the incomplete booking/payment.
- If an online customer does not complete an iDEAL payment after about 15 minutes, the booking will time out and they will have to restart the booking process.
