Google Tag Manager (GTM)
Last updated: July 27, 2022
1. What is Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager is a free tool that allows you to manage and deploy marketing tags (snippets of code or tracking pixels) on your website (or mobile app) without having to modify the code.
In simple terms, Google Tag Manager is like a backpack. You are a website. You put all the stuff you want to use during the day in your backpack so you don’t have to carry everything by hand. You can add more stuff or take away stuff without much effort or overstuffing your pockets.
2. Relation between GTM and the FH Dashboard
Google Tag Manager is used to track events on websites such as clicks, scroll, play video etc.
However, at this stage, it is not possible to track any e-commerce movement or any events inside the FH lightframe.
Note: Do not add the GTM container script in the Dashboard as it is currently not supported.
3. How to get access to GTM
The client will need to give you User permission to access their GTM account. You will need to use the same GA email address your client is on Google Analytics to keep all things together.
Admin⇒ Users Management ⇒ +
4. Troubleshooting
GTM is quite a complex process to troubleshoot as it will be different on every site. For any troubleshooting needs, fill out the GA Help Request workflow in the #amquestionqueue Slack channel.
