Integrating with DataTrax
Last updated: January 8, 2021
What is DataTrax?
DataTrax is a ticketing/redemption solution primarily used by hop-on hop-off buses. They specialize in selling and redeeming tickets in person via handheld POS terminals, or through the web-based POS solution in a ticketing booth. They do not have an online/eCommerce solution.

Integration
FareHarbor powers online booking and sends booking information to DataTrax using a webhook. FareHarbor bookings can then be found in the DataTrax terminal via QR code scan or by searching name, booking ID, or other unique booking information. API/third party bookings will still be connected through FareHarbor.
May 2019 Update: The FareHarbor and DataTrax partnership now features a two way integration. Bookings made through DataTrax are sent back into FareHarbor via an API connection. This two way integration allows for FareHarbor & DataTrax clients to keep availabilities up to date in both systems. When a FareHarbor QR code is scanned by a DataTrax device, the check-in status within FareHarbor is now updated as well, allowing for a more streamlined and accurate check-in process.
Credit Card Processing
For direct sales through DataTrax, business owners will need to connect their own merchant processor. DataTrax recommends merchant processors based on countries and currencies. FareHarbor has requested a list of merchant processors and their associated costs by country.

- Processing fee of 15-30¢ per ticket sold through terminals or POS. Negotiated based on volume during onboarding.
Benefits/Use Cases
- Datatrax was built for hop-on hop-off bus tours, so it allows for multiple scans or uses of each ticket.
- Tickets can be scanned an unlimited number of times until a set expiration date, or for a set number of scans within any timeframe.
- Comprehensive solution – allows for online & third party bookings through FareHarbor, and ticket scanning and voucher redemption through DataTrax.
- DataTrax can upload codes (example: combo tickets can use another system’s barcode/QR code).
Datatrax Steps for Onboarding
When an OB doc has Datatrax on it, follow these steps to ensure a proper setup. Usually the companies working with Datatrax are hop on hop off buses/trains. Double check with the AE that this company is working with Datatrax before building this out. Datatrax will be set up as an affiliate within the charter dashboard.
From the client’s Dashboard, go to Settings > Users & Permissions and create a new user called “Datatrax Webhook.” Username should be “datatraxwebhook”. Give this user the highest permission group available.

Instructions for the Partnerships Team: Click “edit” on this user, and select “API Keys”. Add an API key entitled “Datatrax production webhook”. Once ready, paste in the correct Webhook URL.
- From the client’s dashboard go to Settings>Affiliates and add a new affiliate called “Datatrax Technologies”.
- Select Online for the Total Price Sheet.
- Select Affiliate – API for Permissions.
- Select Charging card for Payment default.
Only the “send receipt emails” box should be checked.

Be sure the trainer knows that the client intends to work with DataTrax so they have a heads up.
If you have a potential client that may be a good fit for the DataTrax integration, ping @software-partnerships on slack in the #datatrax room with the company name and what they are looking for. They will help get a DataTrax rep to discuss with details with you and your company.
