Setting a default value for a custom field
Last updated: June 2, 2022
For certain custom field types, you can set a default value that will be automatically shown when filling out the book form.
For example, if you have a dropdown field with different package options, you can choose to have the most popular package shown by default, to help customers decide what to book. The customer will still be able to choose a different option, if they wish.

The following custom field types allow default values:
- Single line text input
- Checkbox
- Dropdown
- Quantity
- Code generator
Setting a custom field’s default value
Default values can be set at the custom field level (which will update the custom field everywhere it is used) or at the item level (which will only update the custom field for that item). If you set default values in both places, the item-level default will always override the custom field-level default.
Setting a default value at the custom field level:
This can be done from either the main custom field settings or from an individual item’s settings.
Locate the custom field and click Settings in the lower-left corner.

- At the bottom of the Display tab, click Default value to open the default value options.
- Check the box next to “Set a default value”.
- Select or type the default value you want to display on the book form.
Click Save.

Setting a default value for a specific item:
