Multi-tax
Last updated: February 3, 2025
Multi-tax simplifies complex tax arrangements by giving you the ability to set individual prices and taxes for various components based on customer types or custom fields. Once you have enabled Multi-tax, you may create component breakdowns of taxes and prices for:
- Customer types
- Priced custom field types
- Whole-bookings form custom fields
When making a booking with Multi-tax enabled, your FareHarbor Dashboard calculates taxes per component rather than for the entire booking. Customer type and custom field prices are calculated based on the sum of prices for their corresponding components. Once you specify a component price and tax in a price sheet, the final price and tax breakdown is generated.
Taxes are displayed per tax type. If more than one component has the same tax type applied, the final tax amount of that tax type will be displayed in the price sheet’s price preview. Additionally, the price displays a subtotal amount during checkout, accounting for the ticket price without taxes.
Enabling Multi-tax
Multi-tax is available with both tax-excluded and tax-included tax configurations. To enable Multi-tax, please reach out to FareHarbor Support or our Account Management team.
Adding price and tax components
Once enabled, you can create Mult-tax components wherever you see a price sheet.
To begin adding components:
- Click the Price field.
- Select Component from the dropdown menu.
- Once selected, click the link below the dropdown to Add components.
- In the Price components overlay, input your desired price in the Amount field.
- Select the desired Tax type from the Tax dropdown. Tax types must already be defined in the Tax section of your Dashboard settings. More information on creating tax types can be found here.

- Click Done in the Price components overlay.
- Click Save.

You may define how many components a customer type or custom field contains. While configuring prices and taxes, it’s possible to add or remove components.
Configuring price sheets with Multi-tax
Multi-tax components support inheritance starting from the Base sheet downward. This allows you to define a collection of base price and tax components, which will automatically be inherited by all other price sheets. More information on price sheet inheritance can be found on the Introduction to price sheets help page.
When the Components option is enabled from the Price dropdown in a price sheet, it is not possible to define an individual price and tax for a customer type or custom field, however, you may use the Inherit or Change options from the Price dropdown menu.

Price sheets with Multi-tax components are supported by price schedules.
Feature limitations
While Multi-tax offers the ability to set individual prices and taxes for various components, enabling this feature produces some limitations on other functionality. Below are some feature limitations to be aware of.
Setting a total price for direct bookings
Once Multi-tax is enabled, do not apply a custom Final Price for a Direct booking. When Multi-tax is enabled, the Final Price is generated based on the sum of component prices and taxes.

Adding expenses and discounts via booking overview
In addition to defining final prices for direct bookings, it is also recommended that you do not add expenses and discounts in the Booking overview when Multi-tax is enabled.

Custom fields with adjustable pricing
Price adjustments cannot be added in the price sheet overview once Multi-tax is enabled.

Negatively-priced custom fields
When Multi-tax is enabled, do not apply a negatively-priced custom field to a custom field or customer type that uses Multi-tax components. In such cases, no error message will appear but taxes will be incorrectly calculated.
