Saving a card to charge later
Last updated: August 12, 2021
In some cases, you may wish to save a credit or debit card on a booking to charge at a later time. This can be done during the initial booking process, or after a booking has already been made.
Note: Only logged-in Dashboard users are able to save a card. Online customers will not have this option.
Saving a card when making a booking
To save a card when creating a booking, simply select the Save card to charge later option in the payment section of the book form:

Enter the required card information, add a note or comment if desired, then click the Complete booking button. The card will not be charged, and its information will be safely stored in FareHarbor.
Saving a card on an existing booking
To save a card after a booking has been made, find and open the booking you’d like to add a payment for. Then, under Booking actions, select Save card to charge later.

Enter the card information, add a note or comment if desired, then click the Save and verify card button.
Charging a saved card
To charge a saved card, open the booking and select Add payment under Booking actions. The option to charge the saved card will appear along with any other payment types you’ve set up:

Make sure that the correct card is selected, and click Add payment.
Notes
You can save more than one card on a booking. All saved cards will be shown when adding a payment.
Once a card is attached to a booking, it cannot be removed or changed. If a card is added with incorrect information, or becomes inactive, we recommend making a booking note for future reference.

When creating a new booking for an existing contact, any saved cards will carry over to the new booking, so you don’t have to collect the customer’s card information again.
You can charge a saved card on any booking for a contact, even bookings that were created before the card was saved.
Internal-only content. Don't copy and paste to anyone.
Even if an incorrect card was added, or if an existing card no longer works, we are not able to edit or delete the card from the system. Instead, we recommend adding a new card using the Add Payment or Save card to charge later booking actions. We can also add a payment comment or booking note to indicate which card should be used for future payments.
If a client or end customer is concerned about security/FareHarbor keeping their card on file, we can let them know that all card information is securely encrypted and cannot be duplicated in any fashion. Our payment processor is certified under the most stringent level or certification available in the payments industry. Here’s some more information on Stripe and security.
