Creating an item
Last updated: August 4, 2025
Save time and gain greater control over your setup by creating new items directly in the Dashboard. By leveraging the instructions below, your team can quickly create new items and gain foundational FareHarbor skills.
Overview
The multi-step process of setting up an item begins with creating one. There are two creation options that can help customize your new item:
The Duplicate existing item option will create a new item with the same content and settings as an existing item of your choice. This option may be helpful when creating a new item similar to an existing one. Explore which elements are inherited from the source item.
The Build new item option will create a new item that does not include any existing content. This option may be helpful when creating a unique item that is not similar to an existing one.
Creating items directly via the Dashboard can help support a business’ unique needs and deadlines, while also empowering team members to develop key Dashboard management skills.
Although FareHarbor Support is able to create a new item if requested, an item built by Support can take up to 14 days to finalize. The turnaround time frame is dependent upon factors such as request complexity, whether additional clarification needed, and unique circumstances present at the time of request.
Duplicating an item
Duplicating an item allows you to copy its content and settings from an existing item, saving time compared to building a new one.
To duplicate an item:
- Navigate to the Items tab, and select the + New item button.
- A dropdown of creation options will appear. Select the Duplicate existing item option.
- Specify which item should be the source of the duplicate via the Select item field. (Note: A source item must be selected before a duplicate item can be created.)
- Select the Create button to initiate the duplication process.

What gets duplicated
The duplicate will inherit the following elements if they are set up for the source item:
- Description
- Confirmation and cancellation notes
- Primary photo
- Tax rate
- Receipt settings
- Customer types
- Whole-booking fields
- Resource requirements
- Pricing
- Visibility
- Custom field conditions
- Online bookability settings
- Booking restrictions
- Online calendars
- Online payments
- Automatic email and text configurations, including both customer and user notification setups
- Suggested items
- Integrations
- Seating assignments
- Availability schedules and rules
What isn’t duplicated
The duplicate will not inherit the following elements from the source item:
- Availabilities
- Bookability status (Note: The duplicate will always be created with a Private status.)
- Photos
- Activity log from the source item
Building a new item
A new item created with this creation option does not share content with any existing items, which can provide greater flexibility as compared to the duplication process.
To create a new item:
- Navigate to the Items tab, and select the + New item button.
- A dropdown of creation options will appear. Select the Build new item option.
- Enter the new item’s name in the Item name field. (Note: An item name must be entered before a new item can be created.)
- Select the Create button to initiate the creation process.

Next steps
Additional setup is needed before an item can be booked online. Please refer to the Item Setup Checklist (in the new item’s Overview view) for details on which specific setup steps are still needed.
The Setup Checklist is color-coded to reflect the status of included action items.
- If an action item is green, its item-level setup is ready for online booking.
If an action item is orange, a company-level setup is detected and will be used for the item unless an item-level setup is configured.
(For example, the cancellation notes setup action may be orange if the item is using a company-level cancellation notes setup.)
If an action item is red, neither a company-level nor item-level configuration is set up. Additional setup steps may be needed.
The Get Help section of an item’s Overview includes a list of related help pages that can assist with the setup process.
