Booking flows
Last updated: April 8, 2022
Booking flows allow you to organize your items into categories or groups, which can be used to help customers navigate through your online booking process.
For example, categorize your items into “Daily Tours” and “Holiday-Themed Tours” to make it easier for customers to find what they want. Or, suggest a “Family-friendly” group of items on the confirmation page when a customer books one of your family activities.
To get started creating custom booking flows, send us a note and a member of our team will work with you to determine the best setup for your business.
How it works
Every Dashboard comes with a default booking flow, which includes a single flow page showcasing all of your public items.
When integrating FareHarbor with your website, this flow will be suggested by default. When a customer is viewing a specific item, they’ll always see a “Choose a different activity” button at the top of the booking process directing them back to the main flow page.
In addition to the default booking flow, you can create additional flows to use on your website or in the checkout process. Flows are completely customizable, and can contain as many different items or pages as you’d like.
When pages are added to a flow, a string of breadcrumbs will be created so that customers can navigate through each flow without losing their place.

Blocks
Blocks are the visual elements that make up a flow page. A block can be a bookable item, another flow page, or even a link to an external page or website.
On the example flow page below, there are five different blocks. The first two blocks will take the customer directly to the book form for the featured item, while the bottom three blocks will take the customer to another flow page with additional options.

Using flows
There are two main ways you can use flows to improve the booking process for your customers. Read more about each option below.
Add flows to your website
For each flow page, FareHarbor automatically generates a string of code that can be inserted into your website. There are two ways to generate this code: directly from the flow page and using the embed generator in your Dashboard Settings.

Suggest items
You can also use flows to suggest specific items to customers during the booking process, and even after a booking has been completed. For example, when a customer books a kayak rental from your website, you may want to advertise your other rental options in the customer’s online cart or confirmation email. In this case, you’d create a “Rentals” flow and update the suggested items for your kayak rental.

Notes
By default, you can view flows but not edit them. If you’d like access to edit flows, contact your administrator or get in touch with FareHarbor Support for help. Then see Managing booking flows for more details on how to edit flows.
When viewing a flow in your Dashboard, you can click on its name to collapse or open its contents. This can be useful when a flow has multiple pages and you only want to focus on one of them.
If you add unlisted items to a flow page, the unlisted items will be visible to online customers viewing that flow page. Private and archived items will never be visible to online customers.
Internal-only content. Don't copy and paste to anyone.
Flows are not a Dashboard feature; a user just needs to have “Manage booking flows” enabled on their permission group in order to see the Booking Flows section.
To do this, go to the appropriate permission group and click the Setup tab. Then find and enable the “Manage booking flows” permission.
Troubleshooting
If a booking flow has blank spaces or looks weird on your computer (like the example below), it’s most likely a result of your browser being zoomed in/out. Try resetting the zoom of your browser (command + 0) and this should fix the issue.
