Using multiple payment processors
Last updated: August 24, 2021
Your FareHarbor Dashboard can support multiple payment processors, allowing your customers a variety of options to complete payment.
Accessing each payment processor
When you have more than one payment processor, you can easily manage their settings in the Bank & Payments section of your Dashboard using the Processor menu. You can toggle between your payment processors using this dropdown, and the dropdown will show which processor is your default.

By selecting a payment processor from this dropdown, you can access the settings specific to that processor, including the Payment Setup Checklist.
Before you can start collecting payment with your processors, make sure to complete all the steps for all your processors’ Payment Setup Checklists.
In addition to more payment options for your customers, having more than one payment processor can change or add some features of your Dashboard.
Adding PayPal as an additional payment processor
Note that Stripe is the most common payment processor for the FareHarbor Dashboard, and most of the features on your Dashboard are built with Stripe in mind.
Note: In order to enable multiple payment processors, your company’s processing country and currency must be supported by both processors. Read more about Stripe and PayPal supported countries and currencies. If you would like to add PayPal as an additional payment processor, reach out to our Support Team.
If you add PayPal as an additional payment processor, some things in your Dashboard will be different than using just PayPal or Stripe alone. Continue reading to learn more about the specifics below.
How they work
As always, you can access the settings for each payment processor using the Processor menu in your Bank & Payments section (Note: Be sure to complete all the steps for both your Stripe and PayPal Payment Setup Checklists).
In general, Dashboards that have PayPal enabled with Stripe as the default processor will have all the features that are supported with both Stripe and PayPal. However, some features are only available to use with certain processors.
Learn about each individual processor’s different features and settings by reading Stripe’s help pages and PayPal’s page.
In addition to the information about each processor within their help pages, there are some unique notes for Dashboards using both processors together, with Stripe as the default processor:
- Payments
- You can accept all forms of Stripe-supported and PayPal-supported payments.
- If both of your payment processors support the same payment method, the FareHarbor Dashboard will recognize any overlapping payment methods and remove duplicates for customers booking online.
- If payments on a booking are split between your supported processors, you will be able to see which payment used which payment processor in the activity log.
- Refunds
- Similar to payments split between processors on a booking, you will be able to process refunds per payment processor on a booking that has used both Stripe and PayPal. Note: Each processor has different refund behaviors. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to our Support Team.
- Reports
- PayPal is treated as a “Credit card type” in reports. If you want to filter by payments made with PayPal, you can add a filter for PayPal by selecting “Filter by Credit Card”, then “PayPal”.

Note: Make sure to check out the PayPal page as well, including this table comparing PayPal with Stripe.
Enabling PayPal with Stripe as default
To enable PayPal for Dashboards that would like to continue using Stripe as the default processor:
- Navigate to the company’s Advanced settings.
- Search for “PayPal” in the search bar, and check the box labeled “PayPal” under “Payment Processors”.
- Click Save Changes.
Important: Do NOT uncheck the box for Stripe, even if requested by the client. This causes trouble with the Dashboard and is currently not supported.
