Gift card overview
Last updated: June 3, 2025
By offering digital gift cards through FareHarbor, your customers can purchase and send gift cards directly from your website. Recipients can then redeem their gift card when booking on your website or by calling you directly.
Getting set up with gift cards
To offer gift cards to your customers, fill out our Gift Card Setup form and the FareHarbor team will get in touch right away to start setting up your gift cards.
We will work with you to customize your options, such as:
- Price ranges
- Custom instructions for gift card buyers and recipients
- “Buy now” buttons on your website
Once this process is complete, you’ll be ready to start selling gift cards to your customers!
Gift card limits
The default maximum limit for online gift card purchase per booking is 10,000 in your local currency. In case you need to change this maximum limit, please reach out to our Support team to request it. However, we strongly advise setting a max limit of up to the equivalent of $10,000 USD. Higher amounts can result in Stripe punitively disabling payments for your company.
If a customer wants to purchase a gift card for a higher amount than the configured maximum, you can manually create it via Settings > Gift Cards.
How it works
During the setup process, FareHarbor will add the option to buy a gift card to your website. When a customer selects this option, they will be asked to choose the amount on the gift card (or enter a custom amount), and include a recipient name and email address.
After completing their purchase, the customer will be taken to a confirmation page, where they can add a personal message and send their gift card. They’ll also receive an email copy of their order confirmation (this is useful if they don’t want to send the gift card right away).
Watch a short video of this process:
Once the digital gift card has been sent, the recipient will receive an email with their card details and personalized message. The gift card will have a unique alphanumeric code that they can use toward a purchase with your business.
Here’s an example of what the recipient will see:

Redeeming gift cards online
When a gift card recipient makes a booking on your website, they can apply the gift card toward their purchase using the “Apply a gift card” option, located next to the booking total.
Note: Gift card numbers are case and character-sensitive, meaning customers will need to input the numbers exactly as they appear on the gift card (including capitalizations and special characters, such as dashes).
The full amount of the gift card will automatically be applied toward the booking price and tax. If there is still payment owed on the booking, the customer will need to pay the remaining amount with a credit or debit card.
If the booking total is less than the amount on the gift card, the customer will be able to apply the remaining amount toward a future booking.
Note: A customer cannot use a gift card to purchase another gift card. This prevents customers from buying discounted gift cards and then using them to purchase regular priced gift cards. If you have any questions, please contact us at FareHarbor Support.
