Best Practice Combo Items for Channel Specialists
What is a “combo” item?
Often times, a charter company wants to create a “combo” item with another FareHarbor charter company.
For example, company A has a boat tour and company B has a winery. Together, company A and B want to create a combo item guests can book where they would ride a boat over to the winery.
Can this be done in FareHarbor?
Efficiently, no. At this time, availability and resources cannot be read across dashboards which means, if both company A and company B created this combo item, the bookings wouldn’t pull availability and resources from both the boat tours dashboard and the wineries dashboard.
What is a potential work around?
In order to proceed with a combo item, one company will have to “house” the item on their dashboard. We recommend the company with the most limited capacity or specific times to “house” it so if the boat tour has limited spots, but the winery doesn’t have a capacity or resources, then the boat tour should “house the item” so that availability and resources are pulled from that dashboard first. They would be the company getting the booking in real time.
How will company B get the booking in their dashboard if the item is only built out on Company A’s dashboard? Doesn’t Company B need the booking to pull from their capacity as well?
In order for company B to get the booking in their dashboard, company A will either have to manually email company B the booking confirmations by opening the booking OR company B will have to be added as an affiliate on company A’s dashboard with an affiliate permission group.
How will bookings be made and how will payment work?
All bookings and payment will be stored in the dashboard “housing” the item. If applicable, we can ensure that all combo bookings track the amount owed to the company not housing the item.
The company “housing” the item can either make direct bookings for the combo item and tag company B as the affiliate, or an ASN link can be created for the item on company A’s dashboard with company B as the affiliate. An ASN link would allow both companies to resell the item on their websites.
How to set it up?
Company B should be added as an affiliate on company A’s dashboard with a $0 rate sheet and a referral invoice sheet (if applicable). That way, company B can login, and view bookings that have been made with the ASN link with them as the affiliate. They will have to manually enter these bookings into their system at a $0 rate to pull capacity/resources from their dashboard.
How do I get help to help them get this started?
Once they decide who is “housing” the item, direct them to fill out this form. Once the item is created, company A will need to email channelsupport@fareharbor.com requesting to add company B as an affiliate.
Verbiage to Client
“Hello,
We are glad to hear that you’d like to offer a combo item with another company. At this time, multiple dashboards cannot share availability. In order to proceed with a combo item, one company will have to “house” the item on their dashboard (we recommend the company with the most limited capacity or specific times to “house it”).
How will payment work?
All bookings and payment will be stored in the dashboard “housing” the item. If you’d like, we can ensure that all combo bookings track the amount owed to the company not housing the item.
How will capacity be pulled from the company not “housing” the item?
The company not housing the item will be able to view bookings made for the combo item by toggling to their partners booking calendar. From there, they will have to manually insert any bookings in their dashboard at a $0 rate to pull capacity.
How do I get started?
Once you decide who is “housing” the item, fill out this form.
Once the item is created, one of you will need to email channelsupport@fareharbor requesting to add each other as affiliates (remember to CC the other company on the email!).
*If you’d like bookings to track the amount the company “housing” the item owes to the other company, please state the amount in your email
*If you’d like tracked links on each of your websites for the combo item, please state that in your email.
Let us know if you have any questions!”
Charters Reselling Each Other with Email Confirmations
If one company wants to resell or be resold by another company in booking confirmation emails, this can be done even if neither company is on the Partner Program or the FareHarbor Distribution Network (FHDN).
How does it work?
BOTH companies need to be on FareHarbor. When Company A receives a booking for their tour or activity, the guest receives a confirmation email. In the confirmation email, it would have an ASN book button that would lead to Company B’s tours and activities. It might say something along the lines of “Check out other tours and activities in the area!”
If the guest books a tour or activity through the ASN link for Company B, the booking would be tracked.
Remember, if the guest books Company B’s tour or activities, Company B would receive the booking in realtime and collect full payment. The booking would track the commission owed to Company A.
In this case, Company A, is the affiliate because they are reselling Company B.
How would it be set up?
Company A (the one reselling Company B) would need to be added as an affiliate on Company B’s Dashboard.
Company B would be collecting payment, so it would be a referral set up with the commission Company B is paying Company A for bookings made.
Example
I make a booking for The Real Hawaii Tours, a FareHarbor client. Once I receive my confirmation email, I will also see an advertisement to book a tour/activity for Holokino Hawaii, which is another FareHarbor client. If I click on the “ad”, it will lead me to Holokino Hawaii tours/activities. If I complete a booking, it will be tracked as coming from Real Hawaii Tours.
Both The Real Hawaii Tours & Holokino Hawaii are Charter companies on FareHarbor. In this case, The Real Hawaii Tours is the affiliate (the company reselling the tour/activity in the confirmation email). Holokino Hawaii is the charter (the company being booked through the confirmation email).
Below is a confirmation email sent from The Real Hawaii. As you can see, it features 2 additional companies, Holokino Hawaii and Mauna Loa Helicopter Tours.

Generating the ASN link with the logo
Follow the steps below to generate the ASN link with the correct logo:
- Adding a Profile Logo for the Charter
- For the company being resold, make sure that a profile logo is uploaded on their Dashboard.
- To check, go to Settings → Info & Policies > Logo & Contact
- All Dashboards will come with a Primary Logo. If a Profile Logo isn’t there, save the Primary Logo to your desktop and upload it under Profile Logo
Generating the Image for the Confirmation Email
- Go here.
Copy and paste the code below into the text box:
<script src="https://fareharbor.com/embeds/script/partners/fareharbor/?asn=fareharbor&asn-ref=companyshortname&full-items=yes&lightframe=yes&include=company1,company2,company3,etc"></script>Replace “Company 1, Company 2, Company 3, etc.” with the shortname of the company who is being resold (the company who will be listed in another companies confirmation email.
If you are generating images for more than 1 Dashboard, you can replace “Company 1, Company 2, Company 3, etc.” with different shortnames- Test the HTML code.
Example:

- Screenshot the Image
- Once you select “Test the HTML Code”, adjust the sizing and screenshot the images on your monitor (better quality than from your Macbook).
Resize Image
- Open Microsoft Word and upload the screenshot you just took.
- Resize the image to 1.19 X 2.17 on your MONITOR (0.6×1.09 on laptop).
- Zoom to 200%.
Screenshot the image again (this will be the one you will use to upload in the confirmation portion so you can remove the original screenshot from your desktop to avoid confusion).

Generate ASN on Charter dash to Resell on Affiliate’s Confirmation Email
- Go to the Dashboard of the charter who is being resold the company whose image you generated .
- Create an ASN link.
- Set the affiliate as the company who is reselling them in their items confirmation emails.
ASN REF =
shortnameconf(be sure to includeconfat the end!!).
Note: If you are creating a book button for a client or an affiliate reselling through the FareHarbor Distribution Network, FHDN, it will need to be added as the affiliate and selected on the ‘ASN Company’ dropdown. The ‘online ref’ will be the page the ASN link is listed on (i.e. confemail for confirmation email or activities page for a hotel’s activities page).
Upload Image and ASN in Each Item’s Confirmation Email
- Go to the companies Dashboard who is reselling.
- For each item, go to the items confirmation notes (listed under each items Info & Policies).
Select the upload arrow and upload the image from your desktop.
It will look like this:
Use markdown to add in the ASN Link.
Note the bracket at the front, bracket at the end, and then parenthesis in between the ASN:
[](INSERT ASN LINK)
