Configuring dark mode for online booking

Dark mode is a display setting available on a variety of devices that applies a dark “theme” (darker backgrounds with lighter text) to a device.

With FareHarbor, you can configure a variety of settings that will enable dark mode for the Lightframe, allowing your online booking process to more closely align with the preferences of your company and your customers.

There are several settings you can use with dark mode for the Lightframe. From simply supporting dark mode, to forcing dark mode, to previewing your logo in dark mode, you can use your Dashboard to ensure your booking process appears exactly as you want it. Enabling support for dark mode

Enabling support for dark mode will show a dark theme for customers that have dark mode enabled on their device. If your customers do not have dark mode enabled on their device, they will see the standard Lightframe.

To enable support for dark mode:

1. Go to the Settings section of your Dashboard.
2. Select the gear icon in the upper right of the Changelog.
3. Open the View section.

4. Check the box for “Dark mode support for online booking”.

   Make sure to review the preview of your logo in dark mode below the setting checkbox to ensure your logo is visible and appropriate. Read more about dark mode logos and tips.

5. Save your changes.

Uploading a dark mode logo

When choosing a dark mode logo, make sure that it is both visible and readable on a dark background. Using higher contrast between your logo colors and a dark background will help ensure your logo is visible to your customers.

To upload a dark mode logo:

1. Navigate to your Dashboard Settings.
2. Select Info & Policies.
3. Go to the Logo & Contact tab.
4. Upload your desired dark mode logo.
5. Save your changes.

Previewing your dark mode logo

You can see a preview of what your logo will look like in dark mode next to the settings that enable dark mode.

If you have a specific dark mode logo uploaded, this preview shows the image you have uploaded. If you do not have a specific dark mode logo uploaded, this preview shows your standard logo (if applicable).

Forcing dark mode

You can choose to force users to see the Lightframe in dark mode, regardless of their own device settings. This can be helpful if your website is a darker color, or you wish to always have a darker color palette for your customers.

To force dark mode for the Lightframe:

1. Go to the Settings section of your Dashboard.
2. Select the gear icon in the upper right of the Changelog.
3. Open the View section.
4. Check the box for “Dark mode support for online booking” if it is not checked already.

5. Check the box for “Force dark mode for online booking”.

   Make sure to review the preview of your logo in dark mode below the setting checkbox to ensure your logo is visible and appropriate. Read more about dark mode logos and tips.

6. Save your changes.

FAQs

Why isn’t my logo showing?

If your logo isn’t showing during online booking, make sure you have a logo uploaded. You might also want to check the preview of your logo in dark mode to ensure that it is visible on a dark background.

Why is my logo different in dark mode?

Your logo may look different in dark mode if you have uploaded a specific dark mode logo.

Occasionally, your standard logo may look different in dark mode due to an optical illusion called “contrast effect”. This refers to the difference in the appearances of colors depending on the background they are on, even if the color itself hasn’t changed. Upload a specific dark mode logo to ensure your logo appears as desired in dark mode.

Why aren’t my customers seeing dark mode?

Even if you have enabled “Support dark mode for online booking”, the Lightframe defaults to the preferences of the customer. If your customer is using their device in light mode, they will still see the Lightframe with its standard light theme.

If you want, you can choose to force your customers to see dark mode.

Can I customize the appearance of my dark mode Lightframe?

Although the Lightframe itself is not customizable, you can update the Lightframe API script on your website to darken the frame behind the Lightframe. Depending on your website’s color scheme, darkening the frame can improve visibility of your webpage while the Lightframe is open.

To customize your Lightframe API script, configure your dark mode settings and follow the steps for adding the Lightframe API script starting at Step 4. After this process has been completed, adjust the shade parameter to customize the frame’s shade.

shade=auto will result in the standard translucent white frame, unless dark mode is enabled on the visitor’s device. If dark mode is enabled on a visitor’s device, they will see a darker translucent frame due to their device’s local settings.

shade=dark will always result in a darker translucent frame.

Best practices

• If a client’s logo isn’t showing, make sure they have “Always show logo for online booking” enabled.
• If dark mode is on, ensure the logo is visible, or add a specific dark mode logo for a better display.
• The Force dark mode for online booking checkbox should only be used for clients that are a good fit (for example, clients that have dark websites, such as escape rooms or Halloween tours).
