How do I add an Instagram feed to my FareHarbor Site?
Last updated: May 6, 2025
Instagram Feeds can be a great way to share timely, visual content more regularly than changing out a photo gallery every time you take new pictures for your business.
Note that when completing this process, you’ll need to authorize your Instagram account using two-factor authentication. To learn more about this process, visit the Instagram Help Center.
Tip: When adding any social media feed consider the complexity of the page it is being used on. Social media feeds, such as Instagram, will slow down the total page speed. For example, if your homepage is already very complex, choose a page of your website that doesn’t see as much traffic as your homepage.
Adding an Instagram feed
To add an Instagram feed to your website, make sure you have your Instagram account information handy, and log into the WordPress dashboard for your FareHarbor Site to follow the steps below.
- Decide where you will place the Instagram feed on your site.
- Choose a setup option:
- Set up the Instagram Feed settings from the left-hand menu bar.
- Click on Instagram Feed.
- Click on the Instagram button Login and get my Access Token and User ID.
- Log in to the account you want to display.
- Add the Instagram Feed Block.
- The block will ask you to obtain an Access Token from the Instagram Account you want to display in the feed. At this point, no content will have populated.
- Click on the hyperlink within the block, then the Instagram buttonLogin and get my Access Token and User ID.
- Log into the account you want to display.
- Set up the Instagram Feed settings from the left-hand menu bar.
- Agree to allow Instagram to use certain Smash Balloon permissions with content.
- The Access Token and User ID should auto-populate back on the WordPress Back-End.
- Copy the User ID.
- If you are using Setup Option 1: Add the Instagram Feed Block where it should display, then add the User ID from the Instagram Feed settings page you just copied.
- From here, you can set the content to be displayed as you like:
- Customized Hashtags: If you want to show specific photos, add the hashtags you’ve used to designate those photos here. If there’s more than one, separate them by commas.
- Feed Format: Display the photos as a grid or as a slideshow.
- Display Order:
- Newest to Oldest
- Random
- Block Options: This setting can turn the promotional aspects of the feed (like the ability to follow an account from the integrated feed) on or off using the following options:
- Do/Don’t show the “Follow on Instagram” button
- Do/Don’t add space around each image
- Enable/Disable the image lightbox
- Hide/Show the header with user information
- Hide/Show captions under images
- Hide/Show likes under images
- Enable/Disable mobile layout (grid view)
- Once you’ve selected your desired settings, select Update/publish.
