[Legacy] CardFlight iOS card swipers
Last updated: August 23, 2022
Note: This device is no longer supported by FareHarbor. The information below is for informational purposes only. If you’re having trouble with your device, we highly recommend purchasing one of our supported card readers.

When accepting payment from a customer, you can use a card swiper to quickly enter the card number, cardholder’s name, and expiration date from a credit or debit card.
Setting up your card swiper
Before taking your first payment, ensure your card swiper is properly set up by following the steps below.
Ensure your card swiper is fully charged. Use the USB charging cable included with your swiper to connect it to a computer or power source. The indicator on the device will illuminate red when the device is charging and will turn green when it has finished (Note: it will remain green when the card swiper is in operation). Please note that charging your swiper may take up to 2 hours.
Make sure you are running the latest version of iOS on your device. If you have completed this, but still find that you are experiencing trouble setting up your card swiper, contact us.
Install the FareHarbor app on your mobile device, if you haven’t already. Learn more about installing the FareHarbor iOS app.
Once your card swiper is fully charged, plug the swiper into your device’s headphone jack to start taking payments (Note: you must turn up the volume on your card swiper to hear the prompts). If you have an iPhone 7 or higher, you can use the adapter included with your iPhone to connect with the swiper.
Swiping a card
When creating a booking in the FareHarbor app, tap the “Swipe card” link in the upper-right corner of the credit card form.

The first time you use the swiper, you’ll see a notification asking for access to your device’s microphone. Tap Open Settings to enable this option.

Wait until you see the green “Ready for swipe” banner, then swipe the card.
The card number, cardholder’s name, and expiration date will automatically be entered in the credit card form.

Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble swiping cards into FareHarbor, try the following:
Make sure that you’ve given FareHarbor access to the microphone. Go to your device’s Settings, scroll down and select FareHarbor, and make sure the microphone toggle is on (green).

Turn the volume all the way up on your device.
Make sure the swiper is connected to your device properly (securely inserted into the headphone jack).
If you’re still having trouble, feel free to contact our Support team.
Known issues:
- Computers or web browsers set to a language other than English may not work when swiping cards. Let us know if this is your case; we may be able to help.

Note: We no longer sell this swiper. All information below is for informational purposes only. We highly recommend clients upgrade to one of our supported card readers instead.
Important notes/FAQs
iOS readers had to be purchased through FareHarbor. Unlike USB readers, the CardFlight iOS swipers were integrated with the FareHarbor app using CardFlight’s SDK (Software Development Kit). This allowed us to swipe a card in our own app, send to Stripe for processing, and receive a token back from Stripe (increasing security for card-present payments). If a client purchased a swiper directly from CardFlight, it can’t be integrated with FareHarbor.
The card swiper we had clients purchase through FH is the CardFlight Eclipse A200. However, we want to avoid mentioning the exact name of the swiper, because otherwise clients will try to purchase directly from CardFlight.
The CardFlight Eclipse A200 is good for approximately 300 swipes on a fully charged battery.
Trouble with setting up iOS – Before taking your first payment, ensure your card swiper is properly set up by following the steps below:

- Install the FareHarbor app on your mobile device, if you haven’t already. Learn more about installing the FareHarbor iOS app here.
- Once your card swiper is fully charged, plug the swiper into your device’s headphone jack to start taking payments. If you have an iPhone 7 or higher, you can use the adapter included with your iPhone to connect with the swiper.
Purchasing process
Note: This swiper is no longer available for purchase through FareHarbor.
iOS card swiper return policy
The client-facing return policy is “All Sales Are Final.” However, we can be flexible with the client under most circumstances, especially considering the tier. If the card swiper is still operating, shows little to no cosmetic damage and has the original charging cable, we will accept the return.
For companies asking about EMV/chip cards
Because EMV cards still include the magnetic strip on the back of the card, iOS readers can read them just like any other card. For more info on EMV cards and recommended language to clients, see our internal page.
iOS 9 CardFlight Issue Workaround
CardFlight v4 only supports iOS 10 and up. If a client is having issues with their card swiper with this update and their device is running iOS 9.x or earlier, have them download the latest iOS, if they are unable to (some iPads and older devices only go up to iOS 9 for example), then, the workaround is to download a legacy version of the FareHarbor app from the user’s AppStore account. The steps are listed here: https://fareharbor.com/help/payments/credit-card/ios-readers/#ios-9-workaround
Steps to access legacy iOS application:
- Sign in to your Appstore account.
- Select Purchased.
- Find the FareHarbor icon button.
- Select Download next to the FH icon (this looks like a little cloud). This may take a while to respond!
- Once it responds, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to download an older version of the app.
- Select Download.
- The older version of the application will download to your device.
