Network Admin (Page)
Last updated: September 20, 2022
Since FareHarbor is using a multisite install of Wordpress we have access to the network of how all the sites, users, and many more aspects of the multisite intertwine.
Dashboard
This gives the basic functionality over the network. It gives the number of sites on the network, how many users are within the network, and allows search by either. Additionally, both sites and users can be created here. Under Home on the Dashboard you have the option to upgrade network. Do not click this.
Sites
Since FareHarbor sites is on a multisite install we have access to all of our sites all from one area. Sites can be searched by name, although the search has to be exact. The overall site list gives a glimpse at when the site was created, when it was last updates, how many users are tied to it, if it is on the .fareharbor.me URL, if it is live (has its own URL with a TLD other than .fareharbor.me), or if it has been archived or deleted from our database.
There are options of hovering over a domain to execute the following actions : Edit, Dashboard, Deactivate, Archive, Spam, Delete, Visit, Clone. As a WCS/LSS, there are only certain actions that can be taken:
Edit
This will navigate you to the top level part of the backend of that site where you can edit where the URL points, its attributes, the date of registration and last update, users and themes associated with the site.
If you add a farehabor.me Site Address that starts with ‘www.’ you will see a warning saying the site may be unsafe and does not have SSL. Simply remove the ‘www.’ while the domain is not live yet to enable SSL, or select ‘advanced’ and go to the site anyway to ignore the issue.
Dashboard
This will take you into the backend dashboard of the site where you have access to all of the individual sites directories, pages, media, and more.
Archive
If a company switches to a newer theme or leaves Fareharbor we archive their old site in case they want to come back to it. Archiving a site means that only Super Administrators can see the site, but the website will not be available to anyone else viewing it in the front end. There are additional steps needed to if a client is leaving an FH site.
Visit
Takes you to the front end of the website.
Clone
clones that instance of the website into another one. You need to rename the site into something other than what you just cloned the site from. Copies all assets associated. The option to include the blog is presented at the time of clone.
Users
If you are adding a user to a specific site, do not add them here. Go to the individual site and add them as a user to that site.
The user section in the network admin area lists all admins, their roles if the user logged in is a Super Admin, their name (if the filled it out in their profile), their email, when they were added, and what site they have been added to. If the user is a super admin they can go into any site and log in, otherwise a user must be added to a specific site.
All of FareHarbor sites share a bank of users, meaning that one user can be added across many different sites. This also means that if a name or email is already in use by one user on one site it cannot be used again.
Reference the Users help doc to understand what a user has the ability to do at each permission level.
