How to set up custom email notifications using Gmail
Last updated: June 11, 2025
In some cases, a client will want to receive an email notification only when someone uses the comments box, selects transportation on their booking, etc. You can set up custom email notifications based on specific booking criteria using Gmail. See below for steps on how to do this.
Gmail login
You can use this account or create your own Gmail account for this purpose.
How to set up custom email notifications
Add fareharbornotifications@fareharbor.com as a user on the Dashboard you want to create custom notifications for. Sign this user up to receive all FareHarbor email notifications. This allows fareharbornotifications@fareharbor.com to receive all notification emails from this Dashboard.
In the Gmail account, go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP, and add a forwarding address for the user who wants to receive custom notifications.
The company user now has to approve email forwarding from fareharbornotifications@fareharbor.com. Send them an email letting them know their approval is needed. Example:
Hi John,
You should have just received an email to johngaskins@pacificwhale.org from gmail to approve auto email forwarding from fareharbornotifications@fareharbor.com. Please let us know once this approved and then we will set up custom notifications for your new Expedia group bookings.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Anders
AFTER they approve the email forwarding, set up custom notifications in the Gmail account by going to Settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses. Set up a new filter to only forward specific emails.
Make sure to include the company name and words in quotations side by side like this: “Company name” “Word or words”. Then, create the filter and choose who to forward the email to.
