Collecting partial payments
Last updated: August 4, 2021
When adding a payment to a booking, you have the option to collect a full or partial payment. Partial payments can come in handy if a customer wishes to pay with two different payment methods, or if splitting payment among several individuals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the ‘split payment’ calculator on a partial payment?
The “split payment” calculator is designed to split the total amount on the booking. This means even if you’re only collecting a portion of the booking total, the calculator will still display numbers based on the total amount.
You can split payments on a booking however you’d like, but when collecting an amount that’s less than the booking total, you may need to calculate each individual’s payment outside of FareHarbor before entering the partial payment amounts in the system.
Can I collect deposits from customers online?
Partial payments can only be collected by logged-in users on your Dashboard. We generally do not recommend collecting partial payments (such as deposits) online, as our research has shown that this decreases conversions and increases the number of requests for refunds.
However, if you need to be able to collect partial payments from online customers paying through your website, please contact us and our team will work with you to come up with a solution.
How do I print a receipt for a partial payment?
Open the booking and click the Print button (located under Booking Actions).

Here you’ll see several different print options, depending on your Dashboard setup. In addition to a booking receipt (which includes a summary of the booking and its payments), you’ll also see the option to print a receipt for each individual payment associated with the booking. For example, if two customers split the payment for a tour, you can print out a separate receipt for each individual’s payment.
