Using seating with buyouts
Last updated: February 18, 2021
When working with seating assignment, you can represent “buyout” or private party customer types on your map using the resource requirement option Fill all seats once booked.
When this option is enabled and a buyout is booked, all seats on your map will appear filled and unavailable. This ensures that online customers can never overbook a venue or space that has been reserved by a private party.

Important notes
- When a buyout is booked, all seats on the map will appear full, but technically FareHarbor only assigns a single seat to the buyout customer type, meaning you’ll see a single seat assignment in some places, such as in manifest columns, activity logs, and your resource use calendar.
- Users who are logged into your Dashboard and have permission to overbook can still “overbook” a buyout.
- Examples of overbooking include: selecting another customer type in addition to a buyout, selecting 2 buyouts, creating a new booking on top of a buyout, etc.
- In these instances, seats will not be auto-assigned even if auto-assignment is on. Any time overbooking occurs, seats are left unassigned so that you can manually assign them as they see fit.
