Discount codes
Last updated: October 17, 2025
Take control of your promotions with discount codes. This feature allows you to easily create and manage discount codes, and supports a seamless approach to promotions and driving bookings.
Overview
Feature limitations
- Discount codes cannot be redeemed for items purchased with a combo or packaged combo discount.
- This feature is not designed to be used in conjunction with third-party platforms, such as Groupon.
- We recommend enabling either discount codes or campaigns in the same Dashboard setup, not both, to avoid customer confusion.
Discount codes may require different configurations and/or have additional limitations when used in conjunction with specific features. See the Using discount codes section to learn more.
Interested in a more complex setup? Campaigns may be a better fit for businesses seeking more customization options. Please reach out to FareHarbor Support for assistance with enabling campaigns instead of discount codes.
How it works
- Create a discount code via the Dashboard.
- Share the code with your target audience.
Customers or staff members can enter the code to receive a discount on an online or direct booking.
Discounts are applied to the booking subtotal, which includes the customer type and custom field costs of a discounted item.

Configuring discount code settings
Prerequisite: A user must have the Manage campaigns and discount codes permission enabled to view and configure discount codes. Learn more about managing permission groups.

Any code redemption will count toward its maximum uses, regardless of booking type. If a code is applied to multiple items in a single transaction, it will count as multiple code redemptions. Learn more about using discount codes with online cart.

Using discount codes
Discount codes may require different configurations and/or have additional limitations when used in conjunction with specific features.
Using with Cart
When discount codes are used in conjunction with online cart:
- Discount codes are applied at an item level, not for the entire cart.
- Only one discount code can be used per transaction, but it will apply to all eligible items in the cart.
Discounts will be applied to an item’s subtotal before taxes and fees. When online cart is enabled, item prices may differ from the cart subtotal because taxes are included but not discounted.

Using with combos or packaged combos
When discount codes are used in conjunction with combos or packaged combos:
- Combos and combo packages can be redeemed if the discount code is configured to have
0percentage or fixed value discount. (Note: This configuration can be used for affiliate tagging.) Learn more about configuring discount code settings. - Unless it is configured to a
0discount, a discount code cannot be applied to a transaction if all combo or packaged combo items are already included in the cart. - If a discount code is applied to a transaction before all combo or packaged combo items are added, it will be removed (unless configured to a
0discount). Combo or packaged combo pricing will take precedence once all relevant items are in the cart.
Frequently asked questions
I want to create a more complex setup, such as generating randomized codes. Is this possible?
Complex setups are not supported for discount codes at the moment. (Please see the Feature limitations section for more details.) Campaigns may be a better fit for businesses seeking more customization options.
Please reach out to FareHarbor Support for assistance with enabling campaigns instead of discount codes.
Are discounts applied before or after tax?
Discounts are applied before taxes and fees, regardless of whether discount codes are used alone or in conjunction with another feature (such as online cart).
Can a discount code and gift card code be identical?
No, a new code cannot be created unless it is unique. An existing discount or gift card with the same code will prevent the creation of new, identical codes.
Can customers redeem more than one discount code when booking?
Multiple discount codes currently cannot be stacked. A customer can use up to one discount code per booking or transaction, but a discount code can be applied to multiple items per transaction if online cart is enabled. Learn more about using discount codes with online cart.
What happens when the maximum code usage limit is reached?
Once the maximum usage limit is reached, the discount code can no longer be redeemed.
If there are not enough remaining usages for all eligible items in a transaction, the discount will be applied up to the remaining max, based on item order. (For example: If only two redemptions remain, the discount code will be applied to the first two eligible items.)
What occurs if a discount exceeds the order subtotal?
If a customer applies a discount code that exceeds the subtotal, the discount will reduce the subtotal to zero. A negative subtotal or credit will not be applied.
Can I limit discount code usage to specific customer types?
No, discount code usage currently cannot be limited to specific customer types. However, setting a minimum booking amount might serve a similar function depending upon the use case.
For example: If the goal is to prevent a discount code from being used for a Child customer type, then setting the minimum booking amount to a value higher than a Child ticket would prevent customers from using the discount code when booking for a single Child ticket.
Can I create a report to view discount code data?
Reporting is not currently available for discount codes, but is planned for future development.
There are items linked to my discount code, but the table shows it as applied to zero. Why?
If all the items previously applied to a discount code are now archived or deleted, the overview table will show that no active items are applied (0). We suggest applying active items to the discount code, or deleting the code if it is no longer used.

Discount codes and combos
Campaigns may be a better fit than discount codes for clients seeking to leverage additional discounts in conjunction with combo discounts.
Enabling discount codes
- Navigate to Settings > Advanced company settings (gear icon in the upper right).
- Navigate to the Setup section, or use the search bar, to locate the Discount codes feature flag.
- Check the Enable discount codes feature flag, then Save changes.
Note: Discount code information will be retained even if the feature flag is disabled, and reappears if re-enabled.
Best practices
Although we recommend using either discount codes or campaigns, not both, it’s possible if the redemption field labels do not conflict.
Frequently asked questions
A client prefers their original campaign method, and wants to revert. Is this possible?
If a client prefers their original method, FareHarbor admins can assist with disabling Discount codes (Settings > Advanced company settings > Enable discount codes feature flag) and re-enable the Enable campaigns feature flag. The client can then resume their previous campaign method as desired.
