Exclusive customer types
Last updated: December 27, 2021
What are exclusive customer types?
When adding a customer type to an item, you can choose to make it exclusive. This means that once one of that customer type has been booked, all following bookings on that availability must use the same customer type.

This also means that exclusive customer types cannot be booked on an availability if a non-exclusive customer type has already been booked for that specific time. For example, if an availability has three customer types: Adults, Children, and Private Charter (exclusive), and an Adult has already been booked, the option to select the Private Charter will no longer be available.
Exclusive customer types are often used for private booking options, such as a private charter, wine-tasting tour, or escape room.
How do I make a customer type exclusive?
When you first add a customer type to an item, you have the option to make it exclusive:

You can also update this setting on a customer type that has already been added to an item. To do this, click the
icon next to the customer type name, then check the Make exclusive box.

From here, you can also edit the customer type’s capacity and minimum/maximum booking party sizes. Learn more about these settings.
Note: If you set up an exclusive customer type to have a capacity of 1, it means that only one of that customer type can be booked; and after that, no other bookings can be made for that availability.
How do exclusive customer types work with an item’s online booking restrictions?
It’s important to note that minimum and maximum booking party sizes set up at the item level do not apply to exclusive customer types.
For example, if you edit an item’s online booking restrictions to always require a minimum party size of 3, and the item has both an Adult and an exclusive Private Charter customer type, the booking minimum will only apply to Adults. You will still be able to book 1 Private Charter successfully.

Additional Notes
What happens if a customer type was previously not exclusive, but changed to become exclusive?
Existing availabilities using that customer type will take the exclusive customer type into account for any new bookings made moving forward. However, existing bookings, including those made with the now-exclusive customer type, will not be affected.
Can there be more than one exclusive customer type on an availability?
It’s possible to have more than one exclusive customer type on the same availability. For example, you could have a Private East Island Charter and a Private West Island Charter on the same availability. If a booking is made for the Private East Island Charter, future bookings can only be made for that customer type (the West Island Charter will not be available).
Do Price Previews work for Exclusive Customer Types?
They do, but not in the same way as normal Customer Types.
Exclusive Customer Types have their prices displayed by the Price Previews feature in the item description page, but their prices are not taken into consideration for the price range displayed in items’ headlines and in the Search by date view.
